Aerial Imaging to Begin in May

We’ve been working with the Ministry of Natural Resources for the aerial imaging portion of our Geographic Information Systems (GIS) project.

We attended the Central Ontario Orthophotography Project (COOP) Steering Committee meeting in North Bay, March 31 to network and receive project updates. Some of our partner organizations such as Bluesky Net were in attendance, as well as representatives from First Nations communities.

The aerial imaging will begin in May and wrap up in June 2016. We will inform the public when imaging flights depart from Timmins.

The GIS project will lead to increased efficiencies in capital planning, zoning, permits and maintenance, as well as planning in the areas of tourism, economic development, health, education, and lifestyles. These increased efficiencies will promote the economic, cultural, and social development of Northeastern Ontario.

Originally the aerial imaging project was only going to include Southern Ontario. The NEOnet team conducted some lobbying activities and was able to secure a project extension that included a portion of Northeastern Ontario, and the communities that are participating in the GIS project.
