NEOnet’s TechSocial for Seniors

The TechSocial team has been busy these past few weeks promoting and building the foundations for this program! In October, Josh and MJ, spent most of their time travelling within the Northeastern Ontario region visiting partners in the Temiskaming Shores area and participating in the Seniors Information Fairs hosted by the Porcupine Health Unit in Smooth Rock Falls, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Hearst in October and November.

On October 27th, TechSocial was at the Timmins Healthy Aging Expo in association with the Timmins Seniors Advisory Committee and officially launched the program with the help of MPP Gilles Bisson, Mayor Steve Black, and Ontario Trillium Foundation representative Ron Leduc. The event was held at Science Timmins and featured over 30 exhibitors from the community, there were more than 100 and more seniors that attended the event. NEOnet was presented with a plaque from the Ontario Trillium Foundation at the Healthy Aging Expo. With all the excitement around the event MJ also spoke with the local newspaper and Eastlink Community TV regarding this new program. You can read more about the program launch in the article here.

A first of many TechSocial workshop was held on November 6th at the Timmins Public Library. The workshop included topics like cyber security and how to alter security settings on your mobile device to better protect yourself. The class had over 15 active participants eager to learn about their mobile devices! Thank you to everyone who came out to the workshop and Timmins Public Library for hosting the event!
