NEOnet kicked off the 2017 Small Business Week with Technology: Changing the Nature of Work on Monday October 16th, 2017 in Timmins. The presentation was a live broadcast from College Boreal conference room 209 to Kirkland Lake, Kapuskasing and Hearst. There was a total of 29 participants for the event.
Creig Lamb from the Brookfield Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship was the first to present. His presentation was how to Future proof your small business. Creig highlighted statistics and facts on the trends affecting business today.
Christine Bedard, is a local small business owner and registered consultant with NEOnet. Discussed Tech Tips to help your business, and to bridge the gap into in ways future proofing it.
Patrick Rainville from Rainville Health was invited to discuss his experience in the NEOnet and PIC programs that he has benefited from, and shared some of his other lessons learned of being a small business owner in Northern Ontario.
While all 3 presenters had different topics and areas of focus, they all complemented each other to one conclusion: in the world of automation, and Information Communication Technologies (ICT), you have to think about the digital ways to communicate and to entice people to visit your business.

NEOnet has also participated in or attended other Small Business Week events such as Cyber Security presented by MNP LLP on Tuesday, October 17th 2017. It was a good overview on the statistics regarding the importance of cyber security for businesses and an overview of the impact it can cause to businesses.
Phil Barton and Kait-Lynn Gooch participated in a Lunch’n Learn event in Iroquois Falls, on Tuesday, October 17th. Phil spoke to participants about our BEAM and STAMP programs and Kait-Lynn gave an introduction on Cyber Security, and what businesses should be thinking about how to reduce risks, and the importance of back-ups.
On Friday October 20th 2017, NEOnet participated with PIC for an Innovation Forum. Other speakers that were part of the forum were: Materails Joining Innovation Centre, Northern Ontario Angles and Northern College. The event was to learn about funding and programming to support research, commercialization and business innovation.
