Residents of Timmins can enjoy free Internet access outdoors at several locations and venues thanks to the recently completed Wireless Hotspots Project.
As part of the $220,000 investment that resulted in the installation of over 65 free wireless Internet access points in 14 Northeastern Ontario communities, Timmins has eight sites that can be enjoyed outdoors by residents during the summer months.
Outdoor Locations:
The Hollinger Park
Gillies Lake Beach
Gillies Lake Soccer Field
The Regional Athletics and Soccer Complex
The Timmins Chamber of Commerce Past President’s Park
The Mattagami Waterfront Boat Launch
The Mattagami Waterfront Playing Field (Participark)
Archie Dillon Sportsplex
Many of these locations are host to summer events such as the Timmins Concert Series in the Park, Drive In Movies, Little League Baseball Games, the AYA Young Anglers Fishing Tournament and RibFest to name but a few.
NEOnet also recently partnered with Ontera and the Downtown BIA to bring a hotspot to the downtown area where the Urban Park is occurring every weekend this summer.
“The hotspots will provide Timmins residents with an opportunity to remain engaged and connected all the while enjoying the warm weather as well as local attractions and events” said NEOnet’s Project Manager Steven Vachon. “Having wireless Internet access points available at outdoor facilities will encourage adoption and application of the available communications technology.”
