NEOnet attended Northern College’s Frosh Day on September 5th, at the South Porcupine campus. MJ and Josh kicked off the first presentation of the TechSocial program which aims to reduce social isolation through the use of information communication technologies (ICT). By helping older adults learn about smartphones, tablets and apps, we hope to create a sustainable technological community, accessible to any age group, by reaching out to potential volunteers at Frosh Day.
The event was well attended by both potential volunteers and community partners alike. The TechSocial team had a chance to interact with community partners and stakeholders, which included: Northern College, Algoma University, and First Nations community partners. Overall, a great experience that we hope to participate in annually.
We are actively reaching out to community partners and potential volunteers in preparation for the upcoming program launch. If you or your organization is interested in partnering or volunteering in the upcoming TechSocial program that aims to improve seniors digital literacy, with the assistance of The Ontario Trillium Foundation. For more information please contact Josh or MJ for more information at TechSocial@neonet.on.ca.
TechSocial’s next community presentation is Thursday, October 19th in Iroquois Falls, followed by Smooth Rock Falls on Thursday, October 26th, Cochrane on Monday, October 30th and Hearst on Friday, November 1st.
The presentation for Timmins is slated for Friday, October 27th, at which time the program officially launches as part of the Senior’s Advisory Committee’s Healthy Aging Expo at Science Timmins. Josh and MJ will be available to answer questions about the new NEOnet initiative and how you can be a part of it too.
Be sure to join us at the Healthy Aging Expo for a day of great presentations, excellent information resources and a fun social atmosphere!
NEOnet staff took advantage of continuing education this month by attending 2 training sessions from On the Right Track presented by Rhonda Scharf. The first was Effective Team Meetings to strengthen our meeting skills within the organization and to share with others. The second was Intro to Project Management for Admins, which was a refresher on how to execute projects and events. Both were educational and full of information that we would like to share with our networks and stakeholders. If you are interested to join us for one of the training sessions please contact Kait-Lynn Gooch at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 705-360-1353 to express your interest. They will be booked based on which date and time would benefit both participants and staff.
